1907 - Ormond Beach Florida

One of the three Model K Stanley's produced in 1907 is preparing to make a speed trial run on the beach. The world land speed record had been set the previous year by Fred Marriott in the Stanley Rocket. He attained a speed of 127 mph. and became the first to exceed two miles per-minute.

Note: The seat cushion has been removed to lower the driver and decrease wind resistance.

Model K

Three Model K's were built in 1907

They were an upgraded Model H-5. Modifications included the new 30 hp. boiler and burner, left-hand drive and a slightly longer wheelbase. The 20 hp. Model F engine was still employed. 1908 would see a radically different Model K with the introduction of the 30 Hp. Engine.

Locomobile

1901 Locomobile Model 2 steam car (5 hp)

Cost new: $850.00

Hold the press! Flash: Madeira Drive., Brighton. Americans Sue and Chris Greaves have crossed the finish line in their 1901 Locomobile, at 3:54 pm, on Sunday, November 6th, 1994. The 57-mile run began about seven that morning from Hyde Park in London. To say they were "pooped" doesn't quite cover the story.

Note: To qualify, you need to complete the run by four pm.
